Amazon Belgium PPC Guide
Amazon.com.be serves Belgian shoppers in Dutch, French and English from one storefront. Learn what that means for keyword research, campaign structure and expanding into Belgium.
Marketplace: amazon.com.be | Currency: EUR
Marketplace Overview
Amazon.com.be opened in October 2022 and prices in euros. It serves shoppers in Dutch, French and English from a single storefront, which makes it structurally different from the other European stores a seller is likely to have worked in. For a seller already trading on amazon.nl, amazon.fr or amazon.de, Belgium is a short step rather than a new region, but it is not a copy of any of them.
The defining feature is language. Belgium has no single shopping language, and the storefront's customer-facing languages are Dutch, French and English. German is an official language in part of the country but is not one of the storefront's languages. Amazon lets you submit a listing in French or Dutch and then translates that content into the store's other customer-facing languages, so a single-language seller is not shut out of the second audience. What machine translation cannot do is choose the words a Belgian shopper actually types, and Belgian Dutch and Belgian French both diverge in everyday product vocabulary from the language used on amazon.nl and amazon.fr. Treat the translated copy as a draft to review, and treat your own keyword and search-term work as language by language from the start.
The second feature is the set-up work sitting behind the store. Belgium is one of the Pan-European FBA stores, but it is not a country Amazon places inventory in under that programme: to earn local fulfilment fees on Belgian orders you have to enable placement in Germany or France, so Belgian orders are normally fulfilled across a border. Tax follows where the stock sits. Holding stock in Belgium triggers a Belgian VAT registration, while sales to Belgian customers from stock held elsewhere in the EU are usually reported through the Union One Stop Shop instead. A business established outside the EU that does need a Belgian registration has to appoint a fiscal representative, which takes time worth starting before the listings go live. The sensible order of work is tax and fulfilment first, listings second, advertising third.
PPC Advertising Tips for Amazon Belgium
Research keywords twice, not once
Dutch and French are two separate keyword sets, not translations of each other. Belgian Dutch and Belgian French also diverge in everyday vocabulary from the language used on amazon.nl and amazon.fr, so terms lifted from the neighbouring stores are a list to validate against Belgian search behaviour, never a finished one.
Build the negative list in both languages
A negative keyword blocks only the string you gave it. Negating an irrelevant French term leaves the Dutch equivalent live, and the reverse. Work the search term report language by language, run your n-gram analysis separately on each, and reach for negative phrase rather than negative exact when you want to block a whole family of terms.
Read the auto campaign as a listing diagnostic
Automatic campaigns match a shopper's query against your listing content, and on this store part of that content is Amazon's own translation of what you submitted. If one language returns queries that miss what the product is, fix the wording in that language before raising bids, because a higher bid cannot buy relevance the listing does not carry.
Set the base bid first, then let modifiers stack
Placement modifiers multiply the keyword bid rather than replacing it, and any dayparting multiplier multiplies the result again, so the two compound. Anchor the base bid to the economics of the worst converting placement and boost the better placements upward from there, judging placements on relative conversion rate rather than on placement ACoS.
Plan the calendar on Belgian dates
Gifts for Sinterklaas are exchanged on 6 December, which puts that buying window ahead of the Christmas one rather than inside it, and Belgian National Day on 21 July falls in the middle of the summer holidays. Belgium also regulates when retailers may announce sales, so check the rules that apply to your category before you plan a discount-led campaign.
Hold costs in euros, per marketplace
Belgium shares the euro with its neighbours, so there is no conversion step between amazon.com.be and amazon.de, amazon.fr or amazon.nl. If your business banks in another currency, keep cost of goods stored per marketplace in euros so that margin and break-even ACoS are calculated in the same currency as the revenue rather than through a moving rate.

Challenges
- -Two shopping languages on one storefront, so keyword sets, negative lists and backend search terms all have to be built twice, and Amazon's automatic translation is a draft rather than local copy
- -Belgium is not a country Amazon places inventory in under Pan-European FBA, so local fulfilment fees on Belgian orders depend on enabling placement in Germany or France
- -Tax admin depends on where the stock sits: stock held in Belgium triggers a Belgian VAT registration, and a business established outside the EU needs a fiscal representative to hold one
- -Belgian shoppers could already buy from amazon.fr, amazon.nl and amazon.de before the local store opened, and those stores still serve Belgium, so demand is spread across several storefronts
- -A store that opened in 2022 gives you less accumulated search term and rank history to research against than the longer established European stores
Opportunities
- +Translation work pays twice over, since French copy also serves amazon.fr and Dutch copy also serves amazon.nl
- +Euro pricing shared with Germany, France, the Netherlands, Ireland, Spain and Italy, so no currency conversion sits between them
- +Existing EU inventory can serve Belgian orders through Pan-European FBA or the European Fulfilment Network, so entry need not start with a separate shipment
- +Covering the second language is copy work rather than a second account, a second catalogue or a second shipment, so the whole storefront can be addressed from the set-up you already run
- +Reviewing the machine-translated listing in both languages is cheap work that sits upstream of every bid you place, since relevance decides which queries you can compete for at all
